Concrete bag weight does not directly tell you finished volume. Water ratio, mix design, and manufacturer determine yield, so compare products using the cured-volume yield printed on each bag.
Calculate finished shape volume
Convert every dimension to feet or metres first. Multiply length × width × depth for slabs and footings. Use π × radius² × depth for round holes.
Use yield, not bag weight
Divide purchase volume by the bag’s stated yield and round up. Entering local prices lets the planner compare total bag cost rather than assuming the largest bag is cheapest.
Protect the pour plan
Form leakage, uneven subgrade, spillage, and batching losses justify a contingency. Confirm reinforcement, joints, strength, weather, and curing separately.
